Connecting to Shopify with the Private App Method
IN THIS GUIDE
To connect the Shopify integration to Order Desk, you'll need to either have admin access on the Shopify account so you can use your own login credentials to enable the connection, or you will need to be given a private app API key and password.
Connecting through the private app method is useful for situations where you are connecting to a Shopify store that is not your own but need to be able to pull the orders into Order Desk for fulfillment or other purposes agreed to by you and the store admin. This method allows them to give you access to their orders without fully giving you access to their Shopify account.
If connecting this way, have the Shopify admin follow the Steps in Shopify section to give you the information you need to connect following the Steps in Order Desk section.
Steps In Shopify
First, you will need to create a private app in Shopify. To do this, go into Shopify and click on Apps:
Then scroll to the bottom of the page and find and click where it says Manage private apps:
On the next page, click the Generate API credentials button:
Next, in the Description area, give a name to your new private app:
Set the following Permissions to Read and Write:
- Customer Details and customer groups
- Orders, transactions and fulfillments
- Products, Variants and collections
- Draft Orders
All other permissions are optional and can be configured per your preferences.
Click Save and get the API key and password from the Authentication section:
